A couple of moved to South Carolina and found a babysitter to take care of their seven-month-old son, Finn. Shortly after they hired Alexis Khan as their babysitter, everything seemed to be going just fine. However, five months later, they started to notice some changes in their dog’s behavior. The parents, Benjamin and Hope Jordan, said they became suspicious after their dog, Killian, started being aggressive toward the babysitter. “About five months into her being our babysitter, we started to notice that our dog was very protective of our son when she would come in the door.” Killian would get very defensive and stand between her and Finn.

That behavior became more aggressive as time went on. Mr. Jordan explained, “He is a very personable dog so for him to show aggression toward anyone is a sign that something was wrong because he never shows aggression. He {Killian the dog} was very aggressive towards her and a few times we actually had to physically restrain our dog from going towards her.” They knew something was wrong.

They decided to put a mobile phone under the sofa to record for several hours what was happening when they left seven-month-old Finn in her care.  That recording revealed their son crying for 7 1/2 hours, for nearly the entire time. The babysitter was heard cursing at their son and calling him terrible names. That abuse also included slap noises that were recorded and obviously assumed was it was from the babysitter striking their child. Finn’s mother, Hope, said, “Then you hear slap noises and his crying changes from a distress cry to a pain cry. I just wanted to reach through the audio tape, go back in time and just grab him up.” That was in addition to noises they heard of their baby being shaken. “To know that (for) five months I had handed my child to a monster, not knowing what was going on in my house for that day,” said Hope.

The babysitter, Khan, was convicted and sent to jail and has been sentenced to 1 to 3 years. The 22-year-old woman pleaded guilty to assault and battery charges. State authorities will also reportedly place Khan on a child abuse registry, meaning she can no longer work with children.

The couple credits their dog for helping them discover the abuse of their baby when they were not at home. Good boy, Killian, good boy.
