Dogs seem to have a few clear advantages, even when they are blind. They can still possess their sense of hearing and a strong sense of smell to help them along. Even relying on these two senses alone, a dog can still live very happily and cope with the loss of his sight.
The dog in this clip is a Labrator Retriever mix and is called Cheeto. He is currently 9 years old and often goes to San Francisco’s McLaren Park to play. The poor dog was born blind, and had to have his eyes surgically removed when he was only one year old, because the retinas were completely detached.
Occasionally, Cheeto has some problems using the dog door, or bumps into obstacles, but usually he can walk just fine on a trail without a dog leash. Cheeto finds great enjoyment in playing fetch in the water, listening to the ball splash down in order to locate it. Enjoy this adorable blind dog retrieving a ball in this video below:
