Not all heroes wear capes. They don’t even have to wear clothes for that matter.  That’s because some heroes come in the form of man’s best friend.

Patricia Drauch was outside with her 14-month-old son, Stanley, and walking to the garage to get a gardening tool when suddenly she discovered that Stanley who was next to her only a moment earlier was gone. Panicked, she looked around the backyard for her child but didn’t see him. It wasn’t until she walked past the family pool that she discovered him, floating in the pool.

She saw Stanley’s eyes rolled back and his blue lips, but she also saw something quite amazing. Bear, the family dog, appeared to be balancing the little boy on his back so he would stay above the water until help arrived.

According to Drauch, Bear wouldn’t move or even bark until she came over to rescue Stanley. She brought her son to the local fire department where he was then brought to a hospital. Doctors determined that because of Bear’s swift action Stanley was able to escape without injury.

Sometimes a man’s best friend can also be a man’s number one hero.
