The Department of Justice has formally begun investigating Uber.

Evidence could reveal Uber intentionally circumnavigated approval processes for the use of its services by using software trickery.

A software known as Greyball was used by Uber to evade detection in places where Uber was not yet approved by authorities, such as Portland, Oregon, before 2015.

Uber lawyers told Portland authorities that Greyball was in minimal use before the approval. It’s too early to tell what consequences Uber management could face, if any.
