Rapper Drake swung by Lurie Children’s Hospital on Aug. 20 and surprised 11-year-old mega-fan Sofia Sanchez, who’s been waiting for a heart transplant for weeks.
The artist posted a selfie with Sophia on Instagram after the surprise visit, writing “Me and my love Sofia talking about Bieber and Owls and Basketball???.”
According to the hospital, Drake and Sophia not only took photos together, they also exchanged autographs and sang one of Drake’s hits “God’s Plan” together, which is Sophia’s favorite.
Little Sophia is diagnosed with cardiomyopathy, which could lead to heart failure. In order to survive, she needs a heart transplant.
The hospital said the girl just went through an open heart surgery three weeks ago to connect a ventricular assist device to her heart. Since then, Sophia has been waiting in the hospital for several weeks for a new heart.
Sophia celebrated her 11th birthday on Aug. 18 and made two wishes: get a new heart, and meet Drake.
In order to catch her idol’s attention, Sophia even did her own “In My Feelings” challenge and posted it on social media.
According to WGN9, Drake was in town for his tour over the weekend and decided to visit Sophia as a surprise for her 11th birthday.
