A New Year’s Eve bonfire whirled out of control on Jan. 1, causing multiple fires to break out in Dutch seaside resort of Scheveningen and a ‘firenado’ to sweep across the beach front.

Eyewitness videos captured dramatic footage of the fire whirls moving across the sand and embers and ash being blown across the sky.

Emergency services were present at the scene and the boulevard had been cleared, Scheveningen police said on Twitter.

The bonfire, which is made out of wooden pallets, is held annually as a competition with the neighboring Duindorp.
