Have you ever tried to open a padlock when you lost your key? What did you do? Use a hammer? Whatever tool you use, I bet you’ve never attempted to shatter a padlock, or a frozen chicken into pieces with a hammer!
In the video, you’ll see how “everything”—from soft to hard and from fresh to dead— can be shattered into fragments with a simple hammer.
How does the experimenter do it? With Liquid nitrogen! See how easily he shatters objects with the simple hammer. He soaks a variety of objects ranging from peppers to padlocks in liquid nitrogen and then hammers them, literally.
Mixed with nitrogen, the objects change state, and become extremely brittle. So it seems from the softest to the hardest, anything soaked in nitrogen can be smashed effortlessly.
Liquid nitrogen boils at −320.4°F (−195.8°C) at normal pressure. However, if you want to perform these experiements, be cautious because any contact with it will cause severe frostbite.
