Elderly Man’s Heart-Wrenching Struggle to Pay Cancer Treatment Bills for His Dead Wife

They vowed to stay together through thick and thin until their last breath, but cancer took her life away – now her aged husband is virtuously trying hard to pay off the medical bills after her death.

Jessica Pittman, who resides in Mississippi shared this story on her Facebook page.

If y’all need any kindling wood please come buy from this precious 80-year-old elderly man,” Pittman wrote.

Smith lived happily with his wife Helen. . But then ‘Cancer’ entered their peaceful life.  Helen ultimately lost her battle against cancer and left a huge void in Smith’s life along with a large remainder of her medical bills.

Smith now tries to sell kindling for $5 dollars a bag, standing along the roadside for kind passers-by to lend him a helping hand.

Pittman writes about Smith’s kind and genuine nature.

“He waves at every single car that passes.  Friday I was at the stop sign as a funeral procession was passing by. And he was standing alert with his straw hat over his heart. Precious man.”

Pittman’s post received an overwhelming 9,000 shares and great support for Smith.

Since then, Kenneth Smith’s son, Leslie Smith has also started a ‘GoFundMe’ to raise funds for the family.  He is aware that his father spent all his life’s savings on the medical bills   And now he has to resort to selling kindling.

But then, there is no dearth of kind people in the world. In just 26 days, 5,009 people have raised $117,832.  All Smith has to say in his interview with WLOX is

“It makes me think that we live in a good country and this is part of it.”

Such a heart-warming story!
