An elephant from Sagar, India, loves eating paan, a popular chewable stimulant.

Paan consists of nuts, spices, and other fillings wrapped in the leaf from the betel nut plant.

The 31-year-old elephant is named Lakshmi (name of a Hindu goddess). She has been eating paan for about 15 years.

Laskshmi’s fondness for paan in known across the city. Shopkeepers happily provide at least 10 paan for her in one go.

Locals believe that providing food and other items to Lakshmi will bring good fortune to them and their families.
