Elephants may not have much to offer against an attacking rhino, in terms of physical intimidation. The elephant’s tusks in this video clip are no match for the rhino’s horn, in size comparison. If the rhino really wanted, it would be easy to win this contest. However, just as the rhino is about to charge and ram the elephant at full speed, something unexpected happens.
Instead of backing away, the elephant displays intelligence, and starts wielding a dead tree branch lying on the ground at it’s feet. The rhino suddenly gets scared and retreats, obviously having no idea about the real physical impact a dried old branch could possibly do to it.
This video was captured while driving around in Africa’s marshy wetlands, when the explorers encountered a group of rhinos and a herd of elephants. Tensions soon began to rise.
