The Trump administration has announced a new agreement with Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence firm, a partnership designed to transform the way the federal government operates, officials said Thursday.

The deal between the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) and Musk’s xAI allows federal agencies access to Grok 4 and Grok 4 Fast, two of the company’s most advanced chatbot models.

The agreement also includes a team of xAI engineers specifically dedicated to supporting the federal government in integrating the tools, according to GSA.

Access to the xAI tools has been priced at the lowest price of $0.42 per agency, according to a statement on the new partnership.

The goal of the partnership is to increase efficiency and workflow across the federal workforce, GSA said.

“Widespread access to advanced AI models is essential to building the efficient, accountable government that taxpayers deserve—and to fulfilling President Trump’s promise that America will win the global AI race,” Federal Acquisition Service Commissioner Josh Gruenbau said in a <a href="https://www.gsa.gov/about-us/newsroom/news-releases/gsa-xai-partner-to-accelerate-federal-ai-adoption-09252025">statement</a>. “We value xAI for partnering with GSA—and dedicating engineers—to accelerate the adoption of Grok to transform government operations.”

Musk, xAI cofounder and CEO, touted xAI as having the most capable AI models in the world.

“Thanks to President Trump and his administration, xAI’s frontier AI is now unlocked for every federal agency empowering the U.S. Government to innovate faster and accomplish its mission more effectively than ever before,” Musk said in a <a href="https://www.gsa.gov/about-us/newsroom/news-releases/gsa-xai-partner-to-accelerate-federal-ai-adoption-09252025">statement.</a> “We look forward to continuing to work with President Trump and his team to rapidly deploy AI throughout the government for the benefit of the country.”

The project aligns with <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/Americas-AI-Action-Plan.pdf">America's AI Action Plan</a> to apply AI tools to advance the federal government.

The renewed partnership between the president and tech billionaire comes after a monthslong, bitter, and very public fallout.

The two quickly became close allies during the 2024 presidential election. Musk campaigned for Trump and donated a significant amount of money to his presidential bid.

After Trump was elected to office, Musk was chosen by the president to lead the new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to cut waste and fraud in the federal government.

After leaving the DOGE adviser role, Musk publicly opposed Trump's sweeping spending bill. Trump said he was disappointed in Musk and further accused him of going "off the rails."

But the pair r<a href="https://www.ntd.com/trump-and-musk-reunite-at-charlie-kirks-memorial-service_1092012.html">ecently reunited</a> during the public memorial service for slain conservative activist Charlie Kirk. The two were <a href="https://x.com/RapidResponse47/status/1969872514307543522">spotted</a> shaking hands and engaging in friendly dialogue.

Musk later shared an image of their surprise reunion on social media. "For Charlie," Musk wrote on X.

The Trump-Musk deal is effective immediately.

The 18-month agreement is valid until March 2027.
