A plane’s emergency landing on a Mexican beach caused the death of one person at a popular tourist resort. The aircraft was owned by a skydiver business carrying Canadians.

A 62-year-old man has been killed after a small plane made an emergency landing on Bacocho beach in the Pacific surfing town of Puerto Escondido in Mexico on Sunday, according to the state civil defense’s office.

The victim’s wife, who was with him on the beach, was unharmed.

The plane was a Cessna Caravan, Fox News reported.

“To the family of the person who died, we will provide all the necessary support and accompany them in the face of their irreparable loss,” State Governor Salomon Jara wrote in a post on social media platform X, adding that resources were being mobilized to help those onboard the plane.

Footage from Puerto Global showed the damaged aircraft on the beach having crashed into what it said was a turtle rescue center.

The civil defense statement did not give more details on the landing nor the identities of those involved, noting that investigations were ongoing. No one else on the beach was injured, it said.

Those on the aircraft were four Canadian skydivers aged between 35 and 60, a 40-year-old, and a Mexican man. The statement added that all were removed from the plane and taken for medical treatment, saying they were in stable condition.

Other Crashes and Emergency Landings

Last week, a small airplane made a crash landing on a residential street in a suburban neighborhood at the west edge of Phoenix, with the pilot and lone passenger escaping injury.

The single-engine plane experienced mechanical problems shortly after takeoff from nearby Glendale Airport, police said.

The pilot attempted to make an emergency landing at Phoenix Goodyear Airport, but the engine lost power, so the pilot had to put the aircraft down on the street in Goodyear.

The Cessna 172P struck a tree, a mailbox, and a parked car. The unoccupied vehicle suffered minimal damage, but no one in the plane or on the ground was hurt, according to police.

The Federal Aviation Administration started an investigation of the crash.

In Pennsylvania, another small plane crashed, with the pilot again being the sole passenger in early February. It was not immediately clear if there were any injuries.

The aircraft went down minutes after taking off from nearby Chester County Airport in Coatesville.

The Federal Aviation Administration said the incident was under investigation.

Another crash in Florida had a fatal result when an engine failure forced a single-engine Beechcraft Bonanza V35 to crash on a mobile home in Bayside Waters in February.

The pilot and two people on the ground were killed, the Federal Aviation Administration said.
