The Energy Department is handing out $1,6 million in funding to LanzaTech—a green energy company with links to China.

The department handed out funding to 17 groups last week. The dollars are earmarked for biofuel production research. Carbon capture company LanzaTech is one of the 17.

The company is known to have deep links to China. According to its website, it operates 3 plants in China tasked with converting factory emissions to ethanol.

It also partnered with Sinopec Capital in 2021. That’s the clean energy-focused branch of Chinese state-owned oil giant Sinopec.
