A coalition of state governments is pushing back against the world’s largest asset manager, BlackRock. They sent a letter (pdf) to BlackRock CEO Larry Fink, suggesting the firm is using environmental, social, and governance (ESG) investing to put its political agenda over the interests of clients and even U.S. national security.

So what is ESG investing, what’s the role of asset managers like BlackRock investing in ESG, and how is it related to average Americans?

NTD spoke with Will Hild to take a deep dive into this issue. Hild is the executive director of Consumers’ Research, a consumer watchdog.
