Chris Salvatore had it all. He was an established actor, singer, writer and a model. But when he came across this ageing, lonely, 85-year-old woman, he found a new purpose in life. Read on to learn about this beautiful new relation that was stronger than that of blood relatives.
31 years old Chris Salvatore moved in across the hall from this 85-year-old woman named Norma. She lived alone with her cat. Across the kitchen window that overlooked the apartment complex’s courtyard, they would occasionally share a ‘hello’. But, since the woman’s voice was quite feeble, they could not carry the conversation beyond that.

Weeks later, Salvatore decided to meet his neighbor and knocked at her door. That is how Norma stepped into his life. Salvatore learnt that Norma was living on her own, and had no family members visiting her. Norma had long been suffering with severe age related health problems , including a difficult battle with leukemia.
From then on for about four years Salvatore took care of his aging neighbor by cooking her meals and driving her to appointments, not because he had to, but because he wanted to. After all, she was his new adopted grandmother.
Norma recently had an attack of pneumonia and breathing problems and had to be hospitalized for two months. The doctors were not very hopeful that she would live past the holidays, but Norma proved them wrong. She has now moved to Chris’s home.
Norma Cook and Chris Salvatore are an inseparable pair each filling a void in the other’s life.

“She called me the grandson she never had,” Salvatore said of Cook in an interview with Today. And he considers her a grandmother, whom he describes as “friendly but sassy,” and a little stubborn.
Chris has taken her into his own home and has provided her with a beautiful separate room with a bathroom. Since he works from home, he is able to look after her at all times.
Chris claims that he has got much more than he has given. Norma has made him into a nicer, kinder and more compassionate human being.
