EU assigns representative for Brexit negotiations

The European Union assigned a negotiator for upcoming Brexit talks with Great Britain.

EU Brexit negotiator Michael Barnier spoke in French and English about his hopes for the talks.

“I hope to organize the first round of negotiations as soon as possible, hopefully in the week of the 19th June. I would like to be able to give the first report to the European Council on the 22-23 June, exactly, once again, one year after the date of the referendum and less than three months after the notification letter of Theresa May. I hope to see our British colleagues at the negotiation table as soon as possible and look forward to working in a positive atmosphere to find common ground,” he said.

Barnier further stated that first round talks would need success in order to continue into the second round.
