The first U.S. president, George Washington, is not only one of the founding fathers of America but serves for many as the first superhero of the nation. During the American Revolution, he led the colonial forces to victory over the British and became a national hero. An exhibition at the Fraunces Tavern Museum in Lower Manhattan, New York, is paying tribute to the American legend and in a special way.

Over the last 100 years, countless comic books have been written portraying George Washington. Reason enough for curator Renee Witterstaetter to choose the hero of the first hour as the main character for her exhibition “Cloaked Crusader—George Washington in Comics and Pop Culture.”
