It’s uncertain what went on in the minds of Alexander Caro and his wife when they woke up to see her SUV on fire.

They woke up to some heavy door-banging from to a newspaper carrier.

“We had no clue what was going on,” Caro told WSVN.

“We just came out here, and our car is literally on fire bumper to bumper. You never expect to wake up and see your car on fire.”

The heat from the fire melted the paint off the garage door nearby.

At 3.15 a.m. on Aug 12, a person who appeared to be a man with long hair and white shoes set a 2014 Acura MDX ablaze at 1900 block of Southwest 125th Avenue, in Miramar, Florida, Miramar police spokeswoman Tania Rues has said.

The arsonist approached the SUV, poured some liquid on its roof and proceeded to set the vehicle on fire. Then, he fled.

But little did he know a surveillance camera captured the entire act.

The surveillance video of the arson was released Aug. 21. Police are hoping that someone can identify the man responsible.

The couple are relieved they and their two children were unharmed. Their car insurance is covering a rental vehicle for now.

What continues to baffle Caro is why someone would want to burn their SUV—and who this man is.

“It makes it that much frightening especially not knowing why we were targeted in particular or if it was a random act. All those unanswered questions make it that much more to deal with,” Caro told WSVN.

Anyone with information is asked to call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS. You may be eligible for a $3,000 reward. Callers can remain anonymous.
