A man from Spain climbed Mount Everest in record time. He managed to accomplish in 26 hours what most take two to three weeks to do.
He did it alpine style, which means he did not take oxygen or use fixed ropes. Fewer than 200 people have ever summited Everest without bottled oxygen.
Alpine style also signifies that you scale the mountain with only what you can carry and nothing more. Other styles of climbing allow fixed checkpoints with supplies that you can access at any time.
There are others who claim to have summited Everest in around 8 hours, and around 11 hours. But those records are unofficial and under dispute.
