Fatal Pennsylvania gas explosion under investigation

A Pennsylvania utility worked was killed in a gas explosion just after noon on Sunday, July 2. Two other UGI workers and a municipal sewer worker were injured.

The UGI Utilities worker was checking a report of a gas odor in a home in Manor Township, near Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

He told the homeowner, Jeannine Hughes, that he had readings of “close to 100 percent” gas just before the blast.

Hughes was not injured, nor was her family.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating. The NTSB has jurisdiction over all gas pipeline outside a residence or business.
