A mother posted a photo to Facebook that went viral of her three children praying together before their first day of school.

“Dear God, This morning I’m feeling nervous and a little unsure but thankful, I pray for my children on their first day of school. God, I give them to You,” Jamisha Harris wrote on facebook on Agust 5, accompanied with a photo of her three children, Eugene, 10, Jorden, 8, and Emily, 7 holding hands and praying together before their first day of school.

It continued, “and I ask that this school year you would use every person and every experience and every lesson to shape them into Your image, to grow in them, the fruit of Your Spirit. Have a great year kiddos 2019-2020 Idea Bridge Academy,”

“All day, every day I think about my children and that I’m not at school with them to protect them if any tragedies [were] to happen,” Harris said. “Because of the recent tragedies that’s been happening all over the world, it’s no peace in being a mother because I’m always worried about shooters, bullying, sexual assault … anything that can harm my children,” Harris, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana told Yahoo News.

Jamisha’s appeal struck a string with many parents nationwide who worry about their children’s safety and wellbeing in these tumultuous times.

After the Facebook post was picked up by Louisiana’s local news channel WABF and reposted on their Facebook page, it went viral and many people lauded the initiative.

A facebook user, Karen Landry Plunket, for instance, said: ” Great way to start the morning! I pray Father God that You’re Mighty Angels will every moment of the day protect these children while at school and out in this world! I pray that they will be a blessing and encouragement to other children and adults alike. Thank You, Lord, for hearing and answering our prayers for all of these children.”

What Harris didn’t tell is that she and her husband recently lost their jobs and their apartment the day before and, on top of that, their car broke down.

“It has been very hard for all of us,” Harris told Fox News. “And with all the tragedies events that have been occurring in the world lately, I feel nothing is safe for my children, and we are praying because I am sending my children into this wicked world and mommy is not there to protect them,” she told Fox News.

Harris started a GoFundMe initiative to bridge the current crisis. It had initially set its goal at $2,000, but it was reset at $8,000 by Sunday and has passed the $12,464 limit already. One anonymous funder donated $1000 on Sunday.

“With all these tragedies happening the only thing I can do is raise them right and educate them on life and to always pray together,” Harris said to Yahoo.

“I hope it just brings peace to the parents and students on their first day of school,” she says. “We pray for everyone: teachers, bus driver, friends, family members, we pray for a change and peace,” Harris said, according to Fox.

She added: “They may have taken praying out of schools but not out of God’s children.”
