The first freight train to run from Britain to China has arrived in the city of Yiwu in eastern China.

It completed a 7,456-mile (12,000 km) journey.

The train was greeted by enthusiastic traders and shipping company officials.

Both foreign and local traders said the train was more convenient for shipping their stock and were confident it would help increase orders.

The train departed London on April 10. It passed through seven countries before arriving in China: France, Belgium, Germany, Poland, Belarus, Russia, and Kazakhstan.

The first direct freight train from China to Britain arrived earlier this year in January.
