First lady Melania Trump has charmed the fashion world. She was praised for her style on her first trip abroad with the president.
“You communicate with the tools that you have, and for her who cares so deeply about clothing and fashion you can really tell that she likes clothes and likes fashion that it’s not silly to read into it,” said Connie Wang, senior fashion writer at Refinery29.
The first lady chose elegant and appropriate choices for the different occasions she encountered on the trip.
She occasionally selected trendy items, to highlight an outfit.
“Super wide belts, almost like champion prize fighter belts. She wore a giant gold one when she was in Saudi Arabia that was from YSL, and actually that belt is selling really well right now in its current season,” said Wang.
Her clothes are her own, and not borrowed from designers.
“Most of the clothes that she is wearing is a season old, maybe two seasons old and they do seem like they are custom, some of them do seem like they are custom pieces and because they are not preseason pieces like you see a lot of celebrities wearing, it means that she is not borrowing these clothes, that she is actually buying them,” said Wang.
The first lady has showed a preference for one particular designer.
“She has been wearing Dolce & Gabbana consistently, throughout the past hundred days, but she has worn Dolce & Gabbana four times already on this trip, which is a huge amount,” said Wang.
