China launched its first domestically made aircraft carrier on April 26 in the northeastern port of Dalian. The carrier will not be in active service until 2020.

This is China’s second aircraft carrier, the first is a refurbished Soviet Union one from over 25 years ago.

Footage from China’s state media CCTV shows the launching ceremony. The launch comes amid growing tensions over North Korea’s nuclear and missile programs and ongoing South China Sea disputes.
