Upcoming biographical adventure film “First Man” will present the riveting story of NASA’s mission to land a man on the moon, focusing on Neil Armstrong during the years 1961-1969.
Ryan Gosling plays Armstrong and teams up with Oscar-winning director Damien Chazelle. According to People.com, Chazelle says that Gosling was his first choice to lead this film.
“I was fascinated by the psychology of what can drive someone to do what Neil Armstrong did, to physically go further than any human being in history,” Chazelle said. “I think Ryan is able to capture that kind of drive, that kind of methodical focus, that kind of quiet heroism.”
Based on the book by James R. Hansen, the movie tells the story of one of the most dangerous missions in history from Armstrong’s perspective. It explores the sacrifices and the cost of the project on Armstrong and on the nation.
The screenplay was written by Academy Award winner Josh Singer (Spotlight), and the drama was produced by Wyck Godfrey & Marty Bowen (The Twilight Saga, The Fault in Our Stars). Steven Spielberg, Isaac Klausner, Adam Merims and Singer executive produced, while DreamWorks Pictures co-financed the film.
“First Man” is scheduled to released on October 12 in the U.S., and an IMAX version will also be available.
