A Florida doctor who was ten days away from taking a long-awaited job as a doctor in the intensive care trauma unit slipped and fell to his death on a holiday trip with his fiancée.
Daniel Sirovich, 34, from Kearny, New Jersey, was climbing up a rock to get a better vantage point and take a photograph near a cliff in Sa Pedrera de Cala d’Hort on the Spanish island of Ibiza. Unfortunately, he slipped and slid 82 feet downward, unable to stop himself from falling to his death, on Wednesday, Aug. 14, Euro Weekly reported.
Sirovich was traveling with his fiancée Kristi Kelly, 28, who is currently studying to become a physician’s assistant. The couple met in Miami in 2012 and started dating. In 2016, Sirovich proposed. The pair were planning to get married next year.
“It’s a horrible end to a beautiful romance,” Mary Ann Kelly, Kristi’s mother, told the Staten Island Advance.
“They studied together, they lived together, they traveled the world together, and their whole goal was to heal people,” she added.
“All they were concerned about was getting their education and saving lives,” Mary Ann said.
“They were just here Saturday for dinner,” Mary Ann said, adding that they were making plans for their next year’s wedding before taking off to Spain.
“They were just an awesome couple,” she said.
According to Mary Ann Kelly, the couple had diverted their plans from attending a festival in England because of bad weather and went to Spain, according to the Advance.
Sirovich had studied at Rutgers University and worked as an emergency medicine physician at Kendall Regional Medical Center in Miami. He was about to take on a job as an emergency room physician in Boston.
Mary Ann said about Sirovich he was “The most beautiful soul you’ve ever met.”
“He wanted to save people,” she added, “It’s all he wanted to do.”
She added he was “The sweetest fellow you’ve ever met in your life,” Mary Ann said. “He never got upset.”
Friends of Sirovich started a GoFundMe initiative to raise money for the transportation of his body to the U.S. and funeral expenses.
The GoFundMe page reads:
“Danny was, by far, the person with the most life that we had the pleasure to meet. He gave 120% in everything he did, from his studies, to work, to loving Kristi, his family, and friends. To living life to the fullest and truly enjoying each and every moment, seeing the whole world and appreciating every detail in music. He sacrificed 16 years of his life into his studies & work (where he finished top of his class in medical school), finally reaching his life’s ultimate goal this year. Where he was moving to Boston in 10 days for the position, he waited so long for, to be a Doctor in the intensive care trauma unit. Someone who saved many lives and didn’t receive the opportunity to have someone save his… ”
The GoFundMe initiative had set its goal at raising $30,000, but had already raised nearly $45,000 at the time of this publication.
