Flower-Buying Banned on Anniversary of Flood Disaster

Wednesday marked the one-year anniversary of the Zhengzhou flood.

But Chinese citizens say they’re being blocked from publicly mourning.

This time last year, the city of Zhengzhou was largely underwater. In one of the worst recorded incidents, hundreds of passengers and long lines of vehicles got trapped inside a road tunnel as it filled with floodwater. It happened within a matter of minutes.

Speculation of a coverup remains, as the disaster’s death toll is still uncertain a year later.
