Former NFL Player Pleads Guilty to Drug and Weapons Charges, Still Faces Separate Charges Related to His Girlfriend’s Death
Kevin Ware Jr. (Montgomery County Sheriff's Office)

Former NFL player Kevin Ware Jr. agreed to a plea deal Monday on drug and weapons charges, all while still facing separate charges in Texas in connection with the death of his girlfriend, according to the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office.

Court records indicate jury selection for the drug and weapons trial was also set to start on Monday.

First Assistant District Attorney Michael Holley confirmed in a statement the deal had been made for charges of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. Holley said Ware agreed to a 15-year sentence for each charge, to be served concurrently.

CNN has reached out to attorneys for Ware and has not received a response.

In Harris County, Ware is also facing charges, including murder, related to the 2021 death of his girlfriend, Taylor Pomaski. Pomaski’s family reported her missing on May 11, 2021 and said she was “possibly endangered,” according to a Harris County Sheriff’s Office news release. An investigation revealed that she was last seen that April following a party at her residence, and the circumstances surrounding her disappearance “appeared suspicious.”

Pomaski’s remains were found in December 2021, and they were positively identified the following April, online records show.

Court records indicate she had been stabbed, beaten, and strangled, and her body had been tampered with after her death.

If convicted of these charges, Ware could receive an additional sentence of 15 years to life in prison.

According to the NFL’s official website, Ware was a tight end for a two-season career in the league.
