Former NFL wide receiver Terrelle Pryor has been arrested and charged with simple assault, police said. The charge comes after Pryor was hospitalized after being stabbed in the chest and shoulder early Saturday in Pennsylvania.

Pryor, 30, was in critical condition after receiving multiple stab wounds during a fight at his apartment in Pittsburgh but is now under stable condition, according to NFL reporter Ian Rapoport.

It is not clear whether he was arrested after being released from the hospital or was still in the hospital when he was arrested and charged.

Shalaya Briston, 24, was also arrested and has been charged with criminal attempt homicide and aggravated assault, said Pittsburgh police in an update. Police said a female victim also received injuries during a fight inside the apartment located on the 200 block of Heinz Street on the city’s North Side. It is unclear whether that victim is Shalaya Briston, the woman who was arrested.

A friend drove the former Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback to the hospital around 4:30 a.m. Saturday, and he underwent surgery that morning, reported TMZ.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported earlier on Twitter that Pryor’s family was at UPMC Mercy Hospital with him and that he is expected to make a full recovery.

“A close family friend of Terrelle Pryor told me the family does expect Pryor to survive the stabbing, and that several family members are by his side post-surgery as doctors monitor his progress. We will be following the story this AM on @SportsCenter,” he wrote.

Pryor, a native of Jeannette, Pennsylvania, is best known for leading the Ohio State Buckeyes from 2008 to 2010, according to TMZ. He has played for nine teams, including the Oakland Raiders, Kansas City Chiefs, Cleveland Browns, Seattle Seahawks, Washington Redskins, New York Jets, and Buffalo Bills.

Pryor has been a free agent since his September release from the Jackson Jaguars, three days after being put on injured reserve.
