Jevan Snead, former quarterback for the Texas Longhorns, and the University of Mississippi was reportedly found dead at age 32. His death is currently under investigation by police.
According to KVUE Austin, Snead, who was signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2010, and cut later on that same year, died on the evening of Sept. 21.
Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services officials told reporters that authorities responded to a call at around 9 p.m. on Saturday about entering a locked apartment or car, reported the Austin American-Statesman.
Paramedics were later deployed for “an obvious DOS (dead on scene).”
“Very sad day with news of the passing of former Texas QB Jevan Snead,” said University of Texas officials. “Our thoughts and condolences are with his family and friends during this difficult time.”
Snead’s LinkedIn profile indicated that he’d been working in Austin recently. It was also reported that he worked as a managing consultant.
Sports Illustrated said, in an article detailing his career, “One of the top recruits coming out of Stephenville High School in 2006, Snead competed with Colt McCoy for the starting job after Vince Young’s departure from Texas. Snead ended up playing in eight games in 2006, completing 26-of-49 passes for 371 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions.”
According to CBS Sports, Snead—who left college with eligibility—was not selected during the 2010 NFL Draft. He later signed with the Buccanneers as an undrafted free agent but never played.
He was, soon after, picked up by the Tampa Bay Storm of the Arena Football League, but was let go before the start of the 2011 Season.
Snead’s death is currently under investigation by police. Foul play is not suspected.
