French City Fights the Removal of Statue

In Western France, a statue of Saint Michael might be removed from a park after a court’s decision on the suit brought on by an anticlerical group claiming that the statue with religious connotations should not be in a public space. But local groups and the City Hall of Les Sables-d’Olonne are challenging the verdict and refuse to comply. A local political leader says it’s a matter of defending France’s culture and traditions.
