French President Francois Hollande expressed solidarity with the British people on Wednesday, March 22, after at least a forty people were injured and five reported dead in a London attack.

“My intention is primarily to make sure that we fully understand that terrorism concerns us all,” said Hollande, adding that the French, who have themselves been hit hard by terrorist attacks these past years, could understand how the British people were suffering.

Hollande reiterated that European leaders must continue to work together to provide the conditions needed to respond to these attacks at a regional level.

“We can clearly see that on the European level and beyond that, we have to organise ourselves. And fortunately, measures have been taken, even though they do not prevent terror attacks from occurring.”

A car crashed into pedestrians near the British parliament and an assailant stabbed a policeman in what police called a terrorist incident.

French officials later confirmed that three French schoolchildren on a school trip to London were hurt in the attack. The foreign ministry statement did not say how serious the injuries were.
