French President Francois Hollande visited the Bataclan theater, where 90 people were killed in terrorist attacks, in 2015.
He was there to see a comedic performance by Yassine Belattar, a supporter of his 2012 election run.
French President Francois Hollande spoke about his reasons for visiting again.
“Yes, I promised, to the Bataclan directors, who were also directors during the attack, that I will come back. I also wanted this visit to be during symbolically serious and weighty times, so I’m here tonight. I also knew that this show was a comic show and it is very important to speak out against terrorism, fundamentalism, obscurantism… humour is also a weapon.”
In November 2015 three terrorists shot into crowds watching musical performances. An American band was on stage at the time the terrorists began the attack.
Hollande visits the theater in the midst of the French presidential election, where Hollande hopes Emmanuel Macron can defeat Marine Le Pen.
