Gen. Milley: Xi Hasn’t Decided When to Invade Taiwan

Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman General Mark Milley is talking about deterrence. Noting Friday that Chinese leader Xi Jinping hasn’t yet decided when to invade Taiwan.

“He has stated publicly that he has challenged the People’s Liberation Army to develop the military capability to unify Taiwan with China by 2027. He didn’t say, ‘I’ve decided to attack and invade.’”

Pointing out what he called that “subtle distinction,” Milley said this is where deterrence comes in.

“You want to make sure that every single day President Xi wakes up and says today is not that day and that that decision never comes.”
