A book out next week called Peril by journalists Bob Woodward and Robert Costa, says that General Mark Milley, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, made two secret phone calls to his counterpart in the People’s Liberation Army, Gen. Li Zuocheng, during Trump’s last months in office.

Gen. Milley made the calls to assure his Chinese counterpart that America is stable and not about to attack. Also to say that if President Trump did order a nuclear strike, for example, he would give the Chinese Communist Party a heads up

How do the calls, and the brewing scandal around those calls, impact US-China relations?

And what to make of the new security alliance formed by the United States, UK, and Australia (AUKUS) to counter the Chinese regime’s increasing power in the Indo-Pacific region.

We discuss all these questions and more with Bill Gertz, national security reporter for The Washington Times, and author of “Deceiving the Sky: Inside Communist China’s Drive for Global Supremacy.”
