Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger says they will conduct a statewide check of signatures on mail-in ballots across all 159 counties.
Raffensperger says he is confident that Georgia’s elections are “secure, reliable, and effective.”
“Because there has been so much different information spread about this issue, I am ordering this extraordinary step,” said Raffensperger.
His office will partner with the University of Georgia to conduct the audit.
He says the move is to “instill confidence in Georgia’s voting systems” and claims it “will not change the outcome of the November election.”
Raffensperger called allegations of voter fraud “wild allegations from Washington D.C. pundits.”
The statewide audit will look at samples taken at random.
Raffensperger said, “the work UGA will perform is a study of a sample of signed envelopes in each county from the presidential election.”
Researchers will also examine the county-level processes involved in matching signatures on absentee ballots and their envelopes.
