German soldier arrested ahead of suspected attack

Police caught a German soldier who stashed a loaded weapon in an Austrian airport bathroom. German authorities were looking him for violating arms laws.

Nadja Niesen, senior Frankfurt public prosecutor, spoke about what investigators sought, “Based on our investigation so far which was sometimes carried out covertly, the state prosecutor’s office believes or suspects that the accused soldier was planning an attack with the weapon stored in Vienna.”

He also posed as a Syrian refugee and received refugee benefits falsely.

He is one of two soldiers German authorities are investigating.

Ninety German officers searched 16 locations in Austria, France, and Germany looking for evidence of any planned wrongdoing.
