One or more thieves broke into Berlin’s Bode Museum and stole a single 220-pound (100-kilogram) gold coin worth $4 million (3.7 million euros,) Berlin police reported on Monday, March 27.

Apparently the thief or thieves broke a window in the back of the museum and got the coin out of a bulletproof-glass enclosure. Neither the police nor the museum would release any information about security precautions or alarm systems.

The 21-inch (53-centimeter) diameter coin was exceptionally pure as well as exceptionally awkward to move. It has a face value of US$1 million.
