German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe toured the world’s largest computer fair in Hanover on Monday (March 20) where Japan is this year’s partner country.

Some 450 start-ups and exhibitors such as Hitachi, Sony and Toshiba will present their products during the five-day event which will be focused on the theme of digitalization, according to the organizers.

In opening remarks, Merkel said that digitization will spread to all sectors of society and that she hoped the “already very close cooperation” between German and Japan would intensify even more.
