It’s Thanksgiving, and it’s busy on the roads.

More than 54 million Americans are expected to travel 50 miles or more from home this holiday. Compare to last year, this is almost a 5 percent increase.

Cars, trains, buses, airplanes… people travel using all sorts of transportation this Thanksgiving, and here is a break down from AAA.

Driving is by far the most popular choice of transportation, with 48.5 million people expected to hit the road.

Other modes of transportation, including trains, buses, and cruise ships are expected to have 1.5 million travelers.

More than 4 million people are expected to fly. Again, this is an increase over last year.

According to airlines for America, an all-time high for air travel during the 12-day holiday period is expected, and the busiest time for flying will be the day before Thanksgiving and the Sunday after.

Many airlines and airports are making accommodations.

But no matter what mode of transport you plan to be taking, be sure to take patience with you. You may need it.
