A giant asteroid whizzed past planet Earth on April 19.
It was close in astronomical terms—just over a million miles away.
The asteroid, 2014 J025, is between one-quarter and three-quarters of a mile wide.
Though tiny, J025 is twice as bright as the moon. Amateur astronomers should be able to see it Wednesday and Thursday night.
It is the largest asteroid to approach Earth since 2004. That year the three-mile wide asteroid Toutatis also came within a million miles of our planet.
