Giro d’Italia rider celebrates victory too early

A Slovenian racer thought he won Giro d’Italia’s Stage 5 race. He was ahead of the pack and put his arms up in celebration. But why was the pack still racing ferociously behind him? He then realized he started his celebration too early.

In the end, Slovenian Luka Pibernik dropped back to 148, as Fernando Gaviria of Colombia snatched the win. Gaviria also won Stage 3.

Gaviria’s Quick Step Floors team is in the lead overall, with his teammate Bob Jungels leading all competitors.

The Stage 6 race takes place on Thursday.
