How much can a gesturing cat tell us? At least when you’re asking a Chinese person, there’s a lot a cat can say. Chinese stores around the world often have beckoning cats in the windows, with their forepaw in their windows waving to customers.
One of the stories behind the beckoning cat goes like this: There was once a man who got into a heavy rain in a forest and sought refuge under a tree. Suddenly, a cat appeared which was beckoning him along hastily. The man indeed came towards the beckoning cat, and as soon as he has made a few steps, a thunderbolt destroyed the tree he was just standing under – the cat had saved his life!
