At the United Nations building in New York on Monday, U.N. Special Representative for Haiti Maria Isabel Salvador describes the chaotic gang violence situation in Haiti, where she says violent crime has “plunged the life of the people of Haiti into disarray.”
UNICEF Director Catherine Russell said the humanitarian situation is also deteriorating. She said nearly a quarter of children under 14 in Haiti are malnourished, adding that UNICEF has only received a fraction of the $720 million needed to fund the humanitarian response plan.
