‘Hard to Tell the Difference’: Fake Honey From China Floods European Market

Fake honey coming from China has become a significant issue in Europe, where honey imports from the country have sharply increased since 2020. Chinese honey, which can be produced for as little as $2 a pot compared to $5 for French honey, often includes these artificial products.

Beekeepers like Clement Henri warn that these low-cost, profit-driven products undermine local honey producers and are difficult to detect without detailed analysis. The EU Commission, in collaboration with several countries, has launched efforts to uncover and address these fraudulent products.
