Health Hazard Warning for More than a Dozen Types of Recalled Shahjalal Fish

A New York food importer recalled dozens of different kinds of fish because they were not re-inspected before being distributed across the nation on July 27.

Premium Foods USA is asking customers to return an estimated 76,025 pounds of Siluriformes that could be stored in household freezers.

Routine U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) surveillance of imported products discovered the importer failed to present the products for import re-inspection between March 26, 2018, and March 8, 2019.

“The products were imported from Bangladesh and Myanmar, countries ineligible to export Siluriformes fish product to the United States,” FSIS said in a statement. “Steps are [being] taken to make certain that the product is no longer available to consumers.”

FSIS has rated the recall as a class one incident, meaning there is a “health hazard situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death.”

“Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them,” FSIS said. “These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.”

According to recall list Other recalled items include Shahjalal Fresh Water Fish Boal, Batashi, and Ayre. Several types of catfish are also included like Bacha, Gulsha Gangetic Mystus Kajoli, Pabda, Shing Stringing, and Magur Philippine.

“These items were shipped to retail locations in Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania,” FSIS said.

There were no confirmed reports of adverse reactions from eating these products at the time of publication.
