Heartwarming moment disabled boy walks as class encourages him

This is the inspirational moment a disabled boy got out of his wheelchair and walked for the very first time as his classmates cheered him on.

David Matos de Souza, 6, is suffers from poliomyelitis, an infectious disease caused by a virus that attacks the spinal cord and causes muscle atrophy and paralysis.

He has always needed a wheelchair to move but in a highly emotional moment caught on camera, he got up and walked in front of his friends for the first time ever as they applauded his incredible efforts.

As the teacher films the moment, the class can be heard shouting: “David, David, David, go, David go.”

A smiling David starts to walk slowly between tables, steadying himself on them with his hands.

When he gets to the wall of the classroom, he turns around and walks back to where the teacher is waiting for him with a big smile and open arms.

He ends his first steps in the arms of his teacher, who spins him around joyously, celebrating his incredible feat.

David’s mother Roseley said that her son was born paralyzed and has never been without a wheelchair.

She said: “Seeing the video, it was so emotional. I cried a lot. I would have never expected that this happened inside the school.”

“Due to his paralysis, doctors had said he would never be able to walk. But recently he has been getting some physical therapy and his classmates decided to try and encourage him to walk.”

She added: “After so many years of hardship it’s indescribable how I feel now.”

“The one thing I want to say is if there are other mothers in a similar situation, never give up on your children.”

David has now managed to walk several times since and is determined to one day give up the wheelchair for good.
