This homeless man did something that we never expect any homeless person to do. He sacrificed his life to save a woman who was being held hostage with a gun pointing right at her head. Instead of going on with his street life, this 61-year-old man in Brazil made a decision which cost him his life.
While other bystanders watched, this homeless man turned out to be the real hero of the day. Without his assistance, this woman could probably have died.
Due to this brave act, he will get a send-off which is far better than how he was treated in his daily life. However, that sort of bad treatment did not seem to keep his sense of duty at bay. When he saw an opportunity to help out a damsel in distress and to take action, he did not hesitate and took shots for it at point blank.
The unfortunate hero’s name is Francisco Erasmo Rodrigues de Lima who died moments after being shot twice after tackling the perpetrator at Sao Paulo Cathedral, with many witnesses on site and it was all caught on video.
Once he tackled and cornered him, the woman got away but that meant the end of Francisco. His demise was sadly apparent when he slumped down against the door of the building into lifelessness just moments after the attack.
The International Business Times reports, that the gunman, 49-year-old Luiz Antonio da SilvaHe allegedly served 22 years in jail for theft, property damage and inflicting bodily harm. He was shot by the police shortly after the incident which merely wounded him and the police then took him into custody.
Witnesses stated that Luiz and the woman were in the church, praying for some time and then he took her hostage. There is some speculation as to whether this was an escalated robbery.
It is certain that without Francisco’s intervention, the woman might be dead herself and so it is appropriate to pay tribute to the man who literally saved her life and tragically lost his own in the process. He will be properly buried and publicly honored for his heroism.
