Heat wave has Spanish government issuing warnings in 30 provinces

Spain has been hit by unusually hot weather  for this time of year.

The country expects extreme heat, but not in the middle of June. Temperatures hit 104 degrees F (40 C) on June 15.

People are trying to stay in the shade or even stay indoors during the hottest part of the day.  Tourists are having a somewhat less pleasant experience than they had anticipated.

Lourdes, a tourist from Barcelona, spent her time drinking water and hiding from the heat.

“I will go out again later when it’s cooler,” she said.

One young traveler found himself flirting with heat stroke.

Caroline from California had to have her son sit in the shade and drink energy drinks because the heat made him ill.
