GiveSendGo Steps in after NYC Bodega Clerk’s Fundraiser is Deleted

In New York City, a bodega clerk is out of Rikers Island on a $50,000 bail after being charged with murder in a stabbing death, which his family says was an act of self-defense.

The office of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg had reportedly asked for a $500,000 dollar bond for bodega clerk Jose Alba, but a judge set it to $250,000. Alba’s family went about trying to raise the funds for the bond. However, when they got to $20,000 in donations via the crowdfunding site GoFundMe, the site took the page down, saying the campaign violated its terms. Now, an alternative site, GiveSendGo, is hosting the campaign. NTD spoke with Heather Wilson, the platform’s co-founder, to learn why.
